Embossing
Embossing is an adaption of the letterpress printing process in which dies are used to raise the image above the surface of the paper or board.
Debossing has the opposite effect – the image is pushed below the surface.
Blind embossing is the purest form of embellishment, giving an un-inked impression.
Embossing and debossing can be combined into the one result for stunning effects.
Embossing to fit print is when the embossing registers with the previously printed image.
A nice trick is to spot gloss the image with a clear stamping foil or a UV coating prior to embossing.
Paper textures can be used to create a great contrasting result by smoothing out a textured paper in the image area with the die.
